cattedrale di monreale stands as one of sicily's most celebrated attractions.
visitors flock to admire the breathtaking byzantine mosaics that adorn the interior, as well as the stunning cloisters. a visit is highly recommended, especially if you have access to a car, as the cathedral is situated approximately 25 to 30 minutes outside of central palermo.
parking nearby is both affordable and convenient. please note that the cathedral typically closes between 1 pm and 3 pm on most days and enforces a strict dress code.
not only was the cathedral itself an enjoyable experience, but the town of monreale also proved delightful.
perched atop a mountain, the air here is noticeably cooler. during the late afternoons and evenings, locals and visitors alike fill the streetside restaurants, particularly on weekends. this part of the city offers a vibrant nightlife and is conveniently located near other popular local entertainment venues.
this coastal area is technically a traditional nudist spot, but gay beachgoers often find a comfortable place to relax on the rocky outcrops a little further east along the shore.
the coastline is quite rocky, so it's advisable to bring a pair of water shoes for easier navigation. during my saturday night explorations, i observed many people gathered in the narrow local streets, enjoying themselves late into the night. locals of all ages are present, contributing to the lively atmosphere.
